HCC December Game 45 Challenge (G/45,d5)

DATE & TIME:  Saturday, December 16, 2023;  11:00AM-5:30PM  (Round 1 at 11:00AM, subsequent rounds ASAP.  .
LOCATION:  Play More Chess Academy, Home of the Hamden Chess Club, 1227 Whitney Ave., Hamden, CT 06517
FORMAT: 4 round Swiss,  Time Control: G/45, d5  Eligibility: A current USCF membership is required register for this tournament (go to https://new.uschess.org/join-us-chess to join or renew). This tournament is open to all adult players ages 13+.  (Players under 13 who have a USCF rating of 700+ are also eligible for this tournament.. Scholastic players should also see our monthly Scholastic Tournaments which are open to all students (K-12) of all rating levels),  
BYES:  One half-point bye is available for rounds 1, 2, or 3 (not Rd 4).  Zero point byes are available for any round. Request by end of registration. Requesting a zero-point bye during tournament is considered the same as withdrawing.
ENTRY FEE: Early entry (by 11:59PM Thursday prior):  $40  (or HCC Member: $30);  Free Early entry for titled players and HCC Members rated 2000+ (Entry fee of 30 deducted from prize);  Regular entry (by  9:00AM day of tournament): $50  (or Hamden Chess Club Member $40)
PRIZES:  $500 based on 24 entries (Top Section: $100-70 and top U2000 $30;   U1700: $80-50 and top U1500 $30;  U1300: $70-$40 and top U1100 $30
SECTIONS:  Top Section, U1700, U1300
100 POINT RULE:  Players may only play up if their rating is within 100 points of the section limit.  Example a 1200 may play up in the 1700 section but not a 1199 and a 1600 may play up in Top section but not a 1599.

PARKING AND TRANSPORTATION:  Free parking is available on behind the Academy, including free street parking on Putnam/Lake Drive that goes behind the Academy and adjacent Books and Co. CT Transit bus stop is adjacent to Academy at intersection of Putnam/Whitney Ave.

ADDITIONAL NOTES:  All players must be current members of US Chess (go to USCHESS.org to join or renew your USCF membership/membership ID number).  Must register for HCC tournaments in advance. Sets, boards, clocks, score sheets are provided.  Must use our equipment.  Register early as space is limited.
