HCC December Discovery (SCHOLASTIC K-12)

DATE & TIME:   Saturday, December 9, 2023, 1:00PM-5:00PM.   Round 1 at 1:00PM, Subsequent rounds ASAP
LOCATION:  Play More Chess Academy, Home of the Hamden Chess Club, 1227 Whitney Ave., Hamden, CT 06517
FORMAT:  4 Round Swiss.  Time control: G/25,d5; (Each player has 25 minutes to make all their moves in each game; each turn there is a 5 second delay before clock starts counting down); Students K-12, of all levels are welcome, including new first-time tournament players. USCF membership is required as tournament is USCF rated. USCF rating will be used for Swiss pairings and prize purposes. Tournament is expected to finish by 5pm with a brief awards ceremony as soon as last round is completed.  Boards, sets, clocks and scoresheets are provided.
BYES:  Half point bye is available in all four rounds (max of one).and must be requested by email by registration deadline.  Requesting a zero-point bye late in the tournament is considered the same as withdrawing. 
ENTRY FEE: $25-40  (Discounts for early entry and for Hamden Chess Club members) 
PRIZES:  Trophies for player(s) for top three in each section.  Any tie-breaks determined by USCF tie-break formulas (not play-offs).  Chess medals for all other players within each section.

ENTRY DEADLINE:  Early entry discount fee deadline: Thurs. 11:59PM (Thurs. before tournament);  Regular entry deadline: Sat. 11:00AM (Sat. -day of tournament)..No on-site registration.
ADDITIONAL NOTES:  All players must be current members of US Chess to register for this tournament (go to USCHESS.org to join or renew your USCF membership/membership ID number).  Must register for HCC tournaments in advance - first registered, first served  (space is limited). Participants must be students grades K-12.
