Come spend your Friday playing chess in a fun setting.  What is Blitz?  This is also called speed chess.  Games are fast and furious.

Time controls:  Both sections will be G/5, d0.  This will be a five round (6 if there’s time) Swiss System tournament.  All players will play all rounds and no one gets eliminated.

Sections:  Unrated  (novice) and rated.  Note:  USCF membership is mandatory for those playing in the rated section. Blitz games will not impact your regular USCF rating!  Thinking of joining USCF?  Now is a great time to sign up and play in a fun, low-key setting.  Please log on to USCF.org or purchase a membership in the event registration and the tournament director will assist in setting up a youth USCF membership.

Entry fees: 

$10.00 per person.  Concessions will also be available.  “Glen Oak Meals” will be available for $5.00 (includes a slice of pizza, drink, bag of chips and cookie). 

Check-in:

Players can check in as early as 6:00pm. I would encourage all families to be checked in by 6:30pm.  Please purchase a USCF membership on the registration form, if applicable. Announcements will be made at 6:45 and play will begin at 7:00.  The goal is to have everything wrapped up by 9:00.

Awards: 

Trophies to the top two in the unrated section.  The top six places in the rated section will earn a trophy.   Medals will be awarded to those finishing with at least 2.5 points.

Special Blitz rules:

If you make an illegal move that puts or leaves your king in check, you automatically lose.  Other infractions incur a one minute penalty.  If this happens, please notify a tournament staff member.

Space is limited!  The event will be capped at 80 participants!  Please register early!  No registrations will be accepted after Wednesday, January 29, 2025 at 8:00 p.m.

Winter weather disclaimer:  If school is cancelled, the event will be rescheduled.
