FCS Tempo is Fayetteville Chess Society’s five-round US Chess dual-rated prize tournament with Open and U1200 Reserve sections.

Format & Eligibility

• Format: 5-round Swiss
• Time control: G/30; d5
• Rating: US Chess Regular and Quick
• Sections: Open and U1200 Reserve
• Eligibility: Open to all current US Chess members
• Sections may be merged based on entries.

Round Schedule

• Doors open: 9:25 AM
• Registration closes: 9:35 AM
• Round 1: 9:45 AM
• Round 2: 11:05 AM
• Round 3: 12:25 PM
• Break: 30 minutes after Round 3
• Round 4: 2:15 PM
• Round 5: 3:35 PM
• Expected finish: approximately 5:00 PM

Entry Fees & Registration

• FCS members: $30
• General entry: $35
• All entry fees increase by $5 beginning seven days before the tournament.
• Preregistration is required.
• No on-site entry.

Prize Structure

• With at least 6 paid players:
  • 1st Place: $65
  • 2nd Place: Standard entry fee refunded
• The second-place refund covers the standard member or nonmember entry fee actually paid. It does not include processing fees or late-registration charges.
• With at least 10 paid players: A 3rd-place prize will be added.
• If fewer than 6 paid players participate, the prize structure may be adjusted based on turnout.

Registration & Policies

• All preregistered players will be paired for Round 1.
• Please notify the Tournament Director if you are registered but will not be playing.
• US Chess rules apply.
• Chess sets and clocks are provided.
• Notation books are available for purchase.
