End of Summer Action

The Downriver Chess Club presents our first event in our new venue: The Louisiana Bridge Association in Metairie, LA!

Tournament details: Five round, two-section (U1400 & open/unrated), swiss system, G/40;d5, USCF dual-rated tournament. 

Date: Saturday, August 19, registration 10:00AM-10:45AM, first round pairs at 11:00AM. Please do not enter the building prior to 10:00AM!

Venue: The Louisiana Bridge Association, 2709 Edenborn Ave, Metairie, LA 70002. Free parking in the LBA lot.

Concessions: Complimentary coffee and tea. Scones and bagels added when 80 or more pre-registrations are received.

Round times: 11:00AM, 12:45PM, [meal break], 3:15PM, 4:55PM, 6:35PM, prizes at 8:00PM. Round times are tentative and subject to change.

Prize fund: Prize fund is $500 b/50, 50% guaranteed. $100 will be added to the prize fund for every 10 players above 50. Prize fund breakdown as follows:

1st in open/unrated, $200 2nd in open/unrated, $100

1st in U1400, $100

Largest upset prize, $50 in each section

Sections: Open and U1400. Unrated must play in open section or forfeit all potential prize money to play in U1400. TD reserves the right to adjust sections to match turnout. Accelerated swiss system will be used for pairing if section contains 32 or more players.

Pairing: The TDs will assign you to the U1400 or open section. If you have a regular rating and a quick rating, the higher rating will be used. If you have only a regular rating or a quick rating, that rating will be used. If you are paired in the U1400 but would like to play in the open, just let us know. If you are in the open but would like to be in the U1400, be prepared to make a case for yourself to play in a lower section. You may check your section upon registration. Unrated players do not qualify for an upset prize and will be assigned to the open section.

Eligibility: $22 entry fee if purchased by 8/17/23. $30 at the door. Capacity limited to the first 100 players, pre-register to guarantee your slot. Bye policy: Two 0.5 point byes available upon request, must be made prior to pairing round three in non-emergency situations. Bye requests cannot be cancelled following the start of round 3.

Tiebreaks: Cash prizes to be split among all tied entrants
