Dr David Ostfeld Memorial ICA Championships (Sections 1-6)

Bergen County Academies

Event Overview

There are multiple chess events happening at this location on April 21.  Check the other USCF listings for details and registration links for more competitive events.

Note: We have a new structure of sections compared to prior tournaments.  Please read details carefully.

Rounds: The event is four rounds (ie; win or lose, all players play four games each).  Pairings are determined Swiss-style.

Time controls: This varies by section (see below).

Byes: Up to two half-point byes are available per player.  They must be requested prior to the start of round one.  Late entrants will receive a half-point bye for round 1.

Schedule: Start and end times vary by section (see below).

Entry fee: $40 (until April 14), $50 after.

Equipment:  Boards and sets are provided for all sections.  Players in sections 4-6 must bring clocks.

For parents:  ICA and the Bergen school district kindly reminds parents this is a large event that does not include free babysitting.  School and event staff will supervise children during games in priogress, but cannot manage children between games.  The overwhelming majority of children are well behaved, but there are an occasional few who become bored and engage in dangerous or destructive behavior.

  • Minors not in games must be supervised at all times. Children who are not competing should be with their parents or an assigned guardian at all times.
  • Parents arriving or leaving without children may be logged regarding the name of their child and who will be responsible for them in their absence.
  • For their safety, adults and children should not enter locations marked off limits.
  • No skateboards or bicycles are allowed in the building
