Logistics

1. Location

a. 816 3rd Street NW, Washington, DC 20001 (Second Baptist Church)
b. Boards, clocks, and notation sheets will be provided. Please bring your own notation sheets if possible

2. Schedule

Saturday, April 19th

  • 4 rounds, G/25;d5 (25 minutes per side, 5 second delay per move)
  • 9:00 - 9:45 am – Check-in / Player arrival deadline
  • 10:00 am – Round 1
  • Subsequent rounds will follow as determined by the Tournament Director
  • There will be a short lunch break between rounds 2 and 3 (12:30ish)

3. Access

a. Closest Metro: Judiciary Square Station (Red Line), ~3 min walk
b. Other Nearby Stations: Gallery Place-Chinatown (Green, Yellow, Red lines), ~7 min walk
c. Parking: Street parking and nearby garages are available

d. Payment accepted via Venmo (details will be sent after registration)

  • Open section: Regular Swiss format (individual)
  • Team section: Teams of up to 4 from other colleges specifically, $50 per team

Registration Fees:

  • $35 – Standard registration (open section)
  • $50 per team (Free for AU student teams)
  • $17.50 – AU student individual registration

     

2. Pairing

a. Swiss pairing if enough teams register; otherwise, round-robin format
b. Determined by USCF pairing software

 

3. Prizes

Open Section (based on 20+ entries):

  • 1st Place: $200
  • 2nd Place: $75
  • 3rd Place: $50
  • U1600: $50

Collegiate Awards:

  • 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place collegiate students: Trophies
  • Top scoring collegiate female: Trophy
  • Top scoring DC university/college team: Trophy and title of 2025 DC Collegiate Champions
  • Top scoring current DC collegiate student: Trophy and title of 2025 DC Collegiate Champion

Scholastic Section Awards:

  • Individual 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place trophies for each section
  • Top team trophy for each section
  • Top female trophy for each section

Cash Prizes in Scholastic Sections:

  • K–12: 1st – $50, 2nd – $30, 3rd – $20
  • K–8: 1st – $35, 2nd – $25, 3rd – $15
  • K–5: 1st – $25, 2nd – $20, 3rd – $10
  • K–3: 1st – $15, 2nd – $10, 3rd – $5
  • K–1: Trophies only

Tiebreaks:

  • Computer decides tiebreak

4. Regulation

a. Time Control: G/25;d5 (USCF Standard Rated format)
b. USCF Membership required
c. USCF rules and fair play regulations apply

 

5. Rules

a. Notation is required—notation sheets and pens provided
b. USCF violation policy in effect (late arrivals, illegal moves, etc.)
c. Respectful conduct and sportsmanship expected from all players
