CLASSIC CITY CHESSATHON | 2025

Join us for the return of the annual Classic City Chessathon, hosted by Chess & Community, a unique and exciting chess event for players of all ages.
 
FORMAT: 10|5 Swiss-System || Time Control: Game/10 d5 (10 minutes per player with 5-second increment).
This year’s tournament features a 10|5 Swiss-System format (10 minutes per player with a 5-second increment), with at least five rounds determined by entries. The CHESSATHON is a special multi-location competition across eight Athens venues, where players and teams will either be stationary or walk/run to arrive at each location by the scheduled round time, though there is a time constraint to this type of play it will still be competing under standard USCF rules.

ENTRY:
The event is open to all USCF-rated players - current account ID is required, new members can sign up with is. Everyone is urged to arrive early to confirm placement. Entry fees are $10 per individual, or $20 per group of three from the same school, club, or organization. Teams and athletes  compete for the event based Chessathon Athlena Award, given to the 1st place winners of both team and individual players; group prizes reward top performance: 
Individuals (Section One) will win $125 for 1st place, $75 for 2nd, $40 for 3rd, and $25 for 4th with a 
Groups (Section Two) earn $150 for 1st, $80 for 2nd, and $60 for 3rd - each with a CFA gift card provided by Shane Todd, CFA (Downtown Athens) 

EQUIPMENT:

Participants are encouraged to bring clocks (physical or mobile) and personal boards. Two half-point byes and one full-point bye are available if requested before a round, teams are only allowed one bye if a player cannot attend, no exceptions. Due to the tournament format and open amount of team submissions, we cannot guarantee that teams from the same group/organization will avoid playing against each other. Participants are advised to come dressed for the weather and with proper fitted shoes for athletic movement. All proceeds from this event support Chess & Community events, youth programs and mentorship, helping to foster a love of chess and engagement across the region.
