MORE ABOUT THE TOURNAMENT

This registration page will be used ONLY to register for the tournament portion.  See below for the link to register for the other activities.

This is a "Swiss" tournament, which is similar to a bracket system.  It's not an elimination event.  You will play all rounds unless assigned a bye for an uneven number of players.  We will play 4 or 5 rounds based on the number of entries we receive.  The time control for this tournament is G/40; d5 -- this means each player has 40 minutes to complete all their moves, and the clock doesn't start counting down for the first 5 seconds (a "delay" or grace period).  Chess notation will be required ONLY in the Open section.  All other players are strongly encouraged but not required to take notation -- we'll talk more about this at orientation.

This tournament is open only to girls.  There is no residency restriction.

HRCA is an inclusive organization that follows the US Chess Transgender policy.  ALL girls are welcome!

Unrated girls / non-US Chess members will register for a "Rookie" section based on school grade (just completed if school year is over).  Junior Rookie is for girls in grades Pre-K through 5th.  Senior Rookie is for girls in grades 6-12th.  These sections are not US Chess rated, and US Chess membership is not required.

US Chess members will register for a rated section based on ability.  We will have a Novice (U500) section and an Open (500+) section.  Unrated players who are US Chess members may register for either section.  These sections are US Chess rated.  We will use your Regular over-the-board (OTB) rating from the June 2023 supplement for sectioning and prizes.

We will present the following trophies at a minimum.  If entries exceed our expectations, we will add more trophies!

Junior Rookie:  Top 5 girls overall, Next Top 3 girls in grades Pre-K through 3rd, Next Top Girl in grades Pre-K through 1st

Senior Rookie:  Top 5 girls overall.  If a significant number of entries are received in different grades, we will break trophies out by Middle School and High School.

Novice U500:  Top 5 girls overall, Top U300, Top Unrated

Open:  Top 5 girls overall, Top U700

Our tournament staff leadership is ALL WOMAN!!!
