Aug 16 - Chess & Art: "Checkmate in 5: From Vision to Victory" (Hartford), sponsored and organized by the Connecticut State Chess Association and Ashley the Creator, hosted by Parkville Market. OTB Arena as part of Art Exhibit with Final Match on Art Installation. Original Artist-Created 1st Place Trophy!!! Trophies to Top 5! $20 CSCA event credit to all participants! Register here!

Format: 1 PM to 3 PM – Over-the-board Rapid (G/10+3, 20 min game) Arena Tournament An Arena is a duration tournament. Everyone will play as many games as they can for two hours. Pairings happen on availability of opponents in accordance with scoring. Berserk (bonus for using half or less of your game time) and Streaks (bonus for getting three or more wins in a row) are included in scoring. [Read about Arena Rules, generally, here.] Top 2 move on to G/25+5 (one hour game) Final on Artist-created Board for the Artist’s Original Work Trophy. (Other prizes below.) Tie break order in Arena standings is head-to-head and number of wins. If still tied, Armageddon game will be played. 3 PM to 4 PM – Artist’s Pre-Final Presentation ALL players are invited for the Art Exhibition and Curation by the Artist while Arena results are tabulated. Top 5 will be announced. 4 PM to 5 PM – Final Match & Award Presentation The top 2 players from the Arena will play a G/25+5 match before spectators on the Artist-created Board. If the match continues beyond 5 PM, it will be transferred to a regular board and completed there. Awards will be presented as soon as the final is completed. Prizes: Event winner receives a Trophy Created by the Artist. Places 2 through 5 receive CSCA placement trophies. All participants receive CSCA entry credit of $20 toward any CSCA event on or before December 31, 2025. See CSCA Calendar of Events. Register here!
