Checkmate Alzheimer’s Benefit Scholastic Tournament
Proceeds go to the Alzheimer’s Association of South Carolina.
Date: Saturday, January 24th, 2026
Location: Travelers Rest High School, 301 N. Main St., Travelers Rest, SC 29690
Entry Fee: $20 0nline by January 23rd, or $25 cash on site.
Sections: Scholastic K-12th grades.
Rated Sections - USCF membership required; Sections determined by attendance, ratings, and grade levels. Join/renew USCF here: https://new.uschess.org/join-us-chess
Non-USCF, unrated section. If more than one, then sorted by grade levels.
Sets provided; bring a chess clock if you have one.
Prizes: 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prize trophies in three sections.
Final Registration and Check-in 9:30 am – 9:55 am. Anyone not registered by 9:55 am will not be paired for the first round but may play the remainder.
Format: Swiss system, 4 rounds. Time control: G/25, d5. No one is eliminated! Players may play in a higher section, but not below their grade level.
Schedule: 10:00 AM Round 1; 11:00 AM Round 2; 12:00 Noon Lunch;
1:00 PM Round 3; 2:00 PM Round 4; ASAP: Awards and Closing Remarks
Tournament Director may adjust the schedule as needed. Restaurants are nearby.
