A Friendly & Welcoming Chess Event for K–12 Students

Looking for a fun, low-stress way for your child to experience competitive chess? Join us for the Charleston Kids Chess Tournament this October—a Friendly & Welcoming Chess Event for K–12 Students of all skill levels!

Whether your child is new to tournaments or already has experience, this event provides a supportive, community-centered environment to learn, compete, and build friendships.

♟ Tournament Format
• 4 Rounds | Swiss System

♟ Time Control: G25; d5  (25 minutes per player with a 5-second increment)

♟ Sections:

• Rated 1200+
• Rated 800-1200
• Rated under 800
• Unrated

Players must register for the appropriate section based on their rating. Sections may be combined for pairing purposes, but trophies will be awarded separately.

A 4-round Swiss means that all players will play in every round—there is no elimination.

🕒 Event Schedule​

• Check-in: 10:10 -10:25 AM
• Round 1: 10:30 -11:00 AM
• Round 2: 11:05 - 11:35 AM
• Round 3: 11:40 AM - 12:10 PM
• Round 4: 12:15-12:45 PM
• Awards Ceremony: 13:00 PM

🚨 Important Notes

• Advance registration is required. No walk-ins or same-day sign-ups.
• Can't stay all day? You may request one half-point bye when registering or before Round 1.
• Bring a chess set and clock if you have them.
