A USCF (United States Chess Federation) scholastic tournament is a chess tournament specifically designed for and open to players in grades K-12, offering a platform for young chess enthusiasts to compete and improve their skills.

Time: 10:00am - 4:00pm
Time Controls: G/25; d/5 — 4-Round Swiss-style tournament
Prizes Per Section: 1st Place, 2nd Place, & 3rd Place medals.
Registration is from 9:30 - 10:00, but all players should arrive by 10:00 to complete any needed paperwork. Games will start as close to 10:30 as possible. Subsequent rounds will start as soon as possible. No lunch break.

Section: USCF Scholastic Open - 16 Players (Maximum: 30)

Note: USCF membership is REQUIRED for this tournament. To become a USCF member, visit https://new.uschess.org/join-us-chess.

1-year US Chess memberships are $24 for students who will be under 19 at expiration. These memberships include online access to Chess Life or Chess Life for Kids. An additional payment may be made to secure a printed copy of the relevant periodical ($6 for Chess Life for Kids and $12 for Chess Life).

Our US Chess club affiliate code is A6048544.

Game notation is REQUIRED for this tournament, with the exception that players in grades four and below will not need to keep notation of their games. If a player doesn't know how to take notation, the tournament director will allow the game to be played, but will assess the non-notating player a time penalty, typically 5 minutes reduction in the play time allowed for the game. This allows for “thinking time” for the notating player.

Section: Unrated Scholastic Open - 16 Players (Maximum: 30)

This section will be managed according to the same format and rules as the USCF section. This section does not require a USCF membership to play. Notation will still be REQUIRED as in the rated section, with the same exceptions made.
