BayAreaChess Scholastic Championship at US Class National

Participate in the one-day tournament tailored for scholastic players rated under 1000. It is a perfect chance to get competitive play and earn trophies and BA€oins in a welcoming chess environment!

• You must log in or sign up before you can register.
• Online registration closes at 12:00 a.m. the day of the tournament.
• Onsite registration is subject to availability ($34 additional fee incurred).
• Late fees applied starting October 2 or when reaching capacity.

Schedule

• Schedule:
  • Time Control: 4SS G/25 d5
  • Round Times: 8:15 a.m., 9:50 a.m., 11:25 a.m., 1:00 p.m.
• ½-point byes are available for any round, up to 2 rounds total.
  • Byes must be requested at least 30 min before that round's start except last round byes.
  • Last round bye must be requested latest before Round 2.
• 0-point byes are available for any round.

Sections

• Players will be placed into one of the four sections based on their October 2025 Published Supplement rating:
  • Advanced (800-999)
  • Intermediate (600-799)
  • Beginner (400-599)
  • Rookie (u400)
• A player may pay to play up one higher section, double play up is NOT allowed.
• Players must be within 300 points of the rating cutoff to play up, or within 200 points of 800 to play up in Advanced (800-999).
  (Note: The rating used to determine if a player may play up is their October 2025 Published Supplement rating)

Awards

• Trophies
  • Huge 4-post trophies for 1st place winners.
  • Large trophies for players with more wins than losses.
• Medals
  • All players who do not receive a trophy.
• School Trophies
  • All schools with a total of 2 or more players.
• Club Trophies
  • All clubs with a total of 2 or more players .

Fees

• Entry fee: $66
• Play up fee: +$29
• Discount for BayAreaChess Membership subscribers (More Info).
• Late fees, starting:
  • 10/2: +$7
  • 10/5: +$14
  • 10/8: +$21
• Onsite fee: +$34
• BayAreaChess Membership discounts are NOT redeemable for late and onsite fees.

Withdrawals

• Withdrawals are eligible for a partial refund, subject to the following deductions:
  • until 10/1, 4% processing fee.
  • on 10/2 to 10/4, $7 withdrawal fee + 4% processing fee.
  • on 10/5 to 10/7, $14 withdrawal fee + 4% processing fee.
  • from 10/8 onward, NO REFUND will be issued.
• Only withdrawals made before or on 10/7 are eligible for refund.

• USCF membership must be active.
