Event Overview
The Action Tournament runs concurrently with the 59th American Open Main Event and Scholastic Tournaments.
A. Schedule & Location
- Sunday afternoon, December 1, 2024 at 12 pm

B. Tournament Format
- Rounds: 12:00 pm – 1:15 pm – 3:00 pm – 4:15 pm – 5:30 pm
- 5 rounds Swiss-Sys Format
- Time Control: Game 30 minutes / 5 seconds delay
- Games will be US Chess rated.
- Sections TBD depending on the number and ratings of the players
- Maximum one half-point bye allowed

- Entry Fee: $50 by November 15; $60 by November 24 ($70 onsite; discount available for players of the Main or the Scholastic Event)
- $5 admin fee for cancellations & refunds.

- Awards: $1,000 Prize Fund! (based on 30 players)
- Players must have an active US Chess Federation membership.
- Players are encouraged to bring their tournament regulation-size chess set and clock.
The American Open Action tournament is a Side Event of the 59th American Open Chess Championship. The American Open runs on Thanksgiving week from Tuesday, November 26 to Sunday, December 1. There is the Main Event where chess masters will play (Tues-Sun), the Scholastic tournaments for players in K-12th grade (Fri, Sat, Sun), chess camp (Tue, Wed), and Blitz Chess (Sat)
