Action Tournament - 60th American Open at the Hyatt Regency

The Action Tournament runs concurrently with the 60th American Open Main Event and Scholastic Tournaments.

A. Schedule & Location

• Sunday afternoon, November 30, 2025
• Location: Hyatt Regency Orange County 11999 Harbor Blvd. Garden Grove, California 92840 (click here to map)

B. Tournament Format

• Rounds: 12:00 pm – 1:15 pm – 3:00 pm – 4:15 pm – 5:30 pm
• 5 rounds Swiss-Sys Format
• Time Control: Game 30 minutes / 5 seconds delay
• Games will be US Chess rated.
• Sections TBD depending on the number and ratings of the players
• Maximum one half-point bye allowed

C. Registration

• Entry Fee: $50 advance registration by November 15; $60 by November 24 ($70 onsite; discount $20 available for registered players of the Main or the Scholastic Event)
• $5 admin fee for cancellations & refunds.

D. Other Info:

• Awards: $1,000 Prize Fund! (based on 30 players)
• Players must have an active US Chess Federation membership.
• Players are encouraged to bring their tournament regulation-size chess set and clock.

7. Blitz Tournament (for kids and adults) on Saturday night, November 29 at 9:30 pm
