Oct. 15, Nov. 5, Dec. 3, Jan. 28, Mar. 3, Apr. 21:  9th Annual New York State  Magnus High School and Junior High Chess League (Out of state welcome)!

Columbia Grammar and Prep. High School Cafeteria, 36 W. 93rd St. (bet. Central Park West & Columbus Ave., near 96th St. subways), NYC. Open to grades 7-12 born after 4/21/04.  6 separate events, each is a 2-SS on each match date listed (May 5 is for End-Of-Season Awards and possible playoffs). 4 sections: 1. Varsity (1800/above at match date or within prior 12 months, and invitees), G/60, d30.  2. Junior-Varsity (Under 2000 official rating at match date or unr.), G/60, d/30. 3. Novice (Under 1400 official rating at match date or unr.), G/60, d30. 4. Under 900 (Under 900 official rating at match date or unr.), G/60, d10. May be limited to 64 players each date (entries may be subject to wait list). Individual prizes (paid to top 2 scores after both rounds on each match date in top 3 sections): Varsity, $150-80, Junior-Varsity, $100-50, Novice, $60-40 ($40 prize limit to unr.), Under 900, medals or plaques to all scoring 1.5 or more. Cash prize amounts may be adjusted up to 2 weeks before each match date. Individual bonus prizes to the 2 top-scoring players across all 4 sections after all 6 matches (playoff at 10 am 5/5 if tie for 1st, may be fast game): $300-$150. School prizes (the 4 top-scores from the same school produce the school team score): Plaques to the 4 highest-scoring overall school team scores, and any school teams tied with them (school team scores with more rounds played, including forfeit wins and full-point byes, may receive extra credit if tied) across all 4 sections after all 6 matches. Mixed Doubles Team prizes (2-player male/female team, avg. rating U2200 at signup, may be in different sections and from different schools; sign up by 1/28, no extra fee) across all 4 sections after all 6 matches: $200-$100. Additional awards may be updated on website. Rounds: Varsity, Junior-Varsity, Novice: 10 am-1:30 pm; Under 900, 10 am-12:30 pm (all earlier if feasible) each match date. EF: $50 each date per player if paid by 5 pm the day before match, $60 later, by 9 am each date; Under 900 Section $10 less. Optional $920 EF per school for up to 8 players for all match dates (no refunds for unused matches). Enter online: www.magnusleague.org (or www.chesscenter.cc). Each date’s games submitted for USCF rating prior to next date’s games. Players must re-confirm before each date; official USCF rating list in effect on each date used for that date (Online Regular Rating used if no OTB Regular; unofficial USCF ratings usually used if otherwise unrated). Prize limit $40 if Online Regular Rating is over 100 points over section or prize maximum. Prizes may be paid by PayPal (may take over a week). Limit 6 half-point byes over all 6 match dates (2 byes max. Mar. 3 – Apr. 21), commit by Mar. 2. (by Apr. 20 for players with minus scores if team also has minus score), all byes for 2nd game of match date commit by 11 am on match date. Current USCF membership required to play on each date.
