The 95th Wisconsin Closed Championship is a Wisconsin Chess Tour Event

Site:

This year's Closed Championship takes place at the Manitowoc Holiday Inn -- which is very easy to get to, at the intersection of I-43 and US Hwy 151, 4601 Calumet Ave. in Manitowoc. Call (920) 682-6000 to reserve a room for the tournament. The room rate is just $89.99 (single or double)... don't forget to mention "Chess tournement!" And that low room price includes a terrific breakfast buffet! Not just a "Continental breakfast"... a fully loaded breakfast buffet.

We're back to a holiday weekend and a SIX-round Championship, two rounds per day.

Eligibility:

This event is open to all Wisconsin chess players, former champions and students in Wisconsin schools. All entrants must be members of the US Chess Federation, which may be purchased at the site. The WCA website address is www.wischess.org.

Registration:

Players may register at KingRegistration.com.

Registrations will be accepted at the site Saturday, September 2nd, from 8:00 to 9:30 AM. Please bring your USCF ID card or be prepared to purchase or renew your membership during late registration.

In the Premier and Reserve sections only, you may request one ½-point bye in rounds 1-5, limit 1 bye.

$1,610 Prize Fund

(NOTE: based on 80 total players)

Premier (open to all eligible players)

  • 1st - $400 + 2 trophies: a take-home trophy, and the winners' names will be engraved on the Robert Reel traveling trophy
  • 2nd - $250
  • 3rd - $150
  • Expert - $125
  • Class A - $100
  • B & below - $75

Reserve (under 1800)

  • 1st - $200 + 2 trophies: a take-home trophy, and the winners' names will be engraved on the Marshall Rohland traveling troophy
  • 2nd - $100 + trophy
  • Class C - Trophy
  • Class D - Trophy
  • E & below - Trophy

Novice (under 1200)

  • 1st - $125 + trophy
  • 2nd - $75 + trophy
  • Class F (Under 1000) - Trophy
  • Class G (Under 800) - Trophy
  • H (Under 600) & below - Trophy
  • Unrated - Trophy

Special Notes:

The $50 Scott Kittsley Memorial Upset Prize will be awarded to the person scoring the greatest upset in the tournament. The event is wheelchair accessible.

Playing Schedules:

Premier & Reserve

The Premier (open to all eligible players) and Reserve (under 1800) sections are SIX-round Swiss System events in a three-day schedule, two rounds per day.

Time control all rounds 40/90, then SD/30 with 30 second increment beginning with the first move. Rounds are Saturday, Sep. 2nd, 10:00 & 6:00; Sunday, Sep. 3rd, 11:00 & 5:00; Monday, Sep. 4th (Labor Day), 10:00 & 3:30.

Novice

The Novice section (under 1200) is a 1-day, four-round Swiss System event on Saturday, September 2nd. The time control is Game/60 with 5 second delay. Rounds are on Saturday only at 10:00, 1:00, 3:30, and 6:00.
