Event Overview
The American Open Action Tournament runs concurrently with the 61st American Open Chess Championship - Main Event and Scholastic Tournaments.
A. Schedule & Location
- Sunday afternoon, November 29, 2026

- Book Room nights: $169/night + taxes/fees
B. Tournament Format
- Round times: 12:00 pm – 1:15 pm – 3:00 pm – 4:15 pm – 5:30 pm
- 5 rounds Swiss-Sys Format
- Time Control: Game 30 minutes / 5 seconds delay
- Games will be US Chess rated.
- Sections TBD depending on the number and ratings of the players (Previous year's participant list)
- Maximum one half-point bye allowed
C. Registration
- Entry Fee: $50 advance registration by November 15; $60 by November 24 ($70 onsite; discount $20 available for registered players of the Main or the Scholastic Event)
- $5 admin fee for cancellations & refunds.

- Awards: $1,000 Prize Fund! (based on 30 players)
- Players must have an active US Chess Federation membership.
- Players are encouraged to bring their tournament regulation-size chess set, scorebook, and clock. Items will also be available for purchase at the pop-up chess store.
