Event Overview

OVERVIEW

The American Open Scholastic Tournaments runs concurrently with the Main Event of the 60th American Open. It has three divisions: Novice, Junior Varsity, and Varsity, which occurs on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday of the Thanksgiving weekend. The Scholastic tournaments are open to all players in kindergarten to 12th Grade.

Additionally, during the Thanksgiving week of the event, there will be a chess camp on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday from 10 am to 3 pm, Grandmaster lectures, and Grandmaster Simul Exhibition.

The Varsity Tournament is 5- rounds in the span of 2-days with three sections.

  1. 2-day Tournament on Saturday AND Sunday, November 29-30
  2. US Chess rated tournament - Active US Chess membership is required from each player
  3. Five Rounds, Swiss Sys format
  4. Round 1 at 9:30 AM
  5. Time Control: Game 60 min with 5 second delay
  6. Sections are:
    1. K – 3rd Grade
    2. K – 6th Grade
    3. K – 12th Grade

AWARDS

  • Trophies to Top 10 placed finishers in each section
  • Trophies to Top 3 teams in each of the three sections
