J’Kennethon Smith left this realm on July 9, 2022 after being struck by a vehicle protecting a female cousin by pushing her out of harm’s way. His passing was a massive loss to this world. “Ken” was a top academic student, multi-sport athlete, burgeoning farmer and, of course, Chess Player! Unlike his peers, J’Kennethon never uttered a complaint when being dragged all over the city to teach younger children the Game of Kings! He was the type of guy you always wanted to be around. He was a smiling face and a gentle soul. Join us in honoring his memory and final sacrifice by encouraging FAMILIES to play this powerful game with the only cash prizes going to FAMILY TEAMS on this day! All profit from this event will go to MSCA to provide chess clocks to scholastic chess programs in disadvantaged districts.

Late Entry Fee : $45 per player (July 6th and thereafter)

2nd Place FAMILY Team = $200
3rd Place FAMILY Team = $160
** FAMILY Team Scores are determined by combining the top 3 point totals of a Team composed of family members.
A Family Team must be declared before the start of Round 1.
Each member of the Family Team may play in whichever section is appropriate for their rating (or above).
If playing in the same section, family members will not be paired play against each other **

All individual award tiebreaks will be decided by two G/5+3 Blitz Games. Armageddon if necessary.
All Cash award tiebreaks will result in prize money combined and equally divided among winning teams.

*If a particular section is finishing ahead of schedule and all participants/guardians agree, round times for that particular section MAY be moved ahead of schedule
*** REQUESTED BYES *** a single 0.5 point bye is permitted for Rounds 1-3. The request MUST be made before pairing of that round.
