US Chess Membership is Required. All US Chess Rules will be followed. Notation is required in all sections. Players 8 years old or younger (or their parents) can ask the tournament director before Round 1 for an exemption, if they are still learning to write in general.  

Players younger than high school age (~14) must be accompanied by an adult.

Three Sections: 

  • Open - Open to all players
  • U1201 Reserve - Players must have a USCF Regular Rating below 1201. Unrated players may play in this section.
  • U600 Scholastic - Players must have a USCF Regular Rating below 600 AND will be a K-12 student during the 2023-2024 school year. Unrated K-12 players may play in this section.

USCF Quick or Blitz ratings may be used for section eligibility purposes for players without a regular rating.

Format:

Open and U1201 Reserve Sections

4 Rounds SS; G/40+10 (Clocks will be set with 40 minutes per player, and a 10 second increment that adds back after each move)

 

U600 Scholastic Section

4 Rounds SS; G/25 d5 (Clocks will be set with 25 minutes per player, and a 5 second delay that counts down at the beginning of a player’s turn)

 

Entry Fee: Open and Reserve Sections: $25 cash onsite. Scholastic Section: $15 cash onsite.

Players who have earned a non-provisional regular USCF rating of at least 2200 anytime in the last 9 months will receive free entry (no prize deductions) - AKA Masters play for free!

Unrated players are not eligible for the upset prize. USCF Quick or Blitz ratings may be used for prize eligibility purposes for players without a regular rating.

Schedule:

Onsite Registration and Check-In: 9:00am-9:45am

U600 Scholastic Section

Round 1: 10:00am

Round 2 will start 15 minutes after the last game ends of Round 1.

Round 3 will start 45 minutes after the last game ends of Round 2 (Lunch break).

Round 4 will start 15 minutes after the last game ends of Round 3.

The U600 Scholastic Section is estimated to conclude around 2:45pm. 

Open and U1201 Reserve Sections

Round 1: 10:00am

Round 2 will start 45 minutes after the last game ends of Round 1 (Lunch break).

All subsequent rounds will start 15 minutes after the last game ends of the previous round.

These sections are estimated to conclude around 5:15pm. The Reserve section may begin their rounds sooner than the Open Section. 

 

Players arriving after registration will receive one half-point bye and will be paired in subsequent rounds. Half-point byes may be requested for any round during registration only. 

Boards and Pieces will be provided. Please bring clocks (clocks will be provided for the U600 Scholastic Section). 

Board 1 in the Open Section may be streamed via Facebook Live.

Jackson Purchase Blitz Championship

US Chess Membership is Required. All US Chess Rules will be Followed. It is the player’s responsibility to familiarize themselves with the differences between US Chess Regular and Blitz rules. See Chapter 11.

Players younger than high school age (~14) must be accompanied by an adult.

Format:

One Section

4 Double Rounds SS; G/3+2 (Clocks will be set with 3 minutes per player, and a 2 second increment that adds back after each move). For each round, players will play two games against their opponents, playing each color once. 

 

Entry Fee: $15 cash onsite. 

Players who have earned a non-provisional regular, quick, or blitz USCF rating of at least 2200 anytime in the last 9 months will receive free entry (no prize deductions) - AKA Masters play for free!

Prizes; 

75% of Entry fees will go towards the prize fund.

1st - 50% of Prize Fund

2nd - 30% of Prize Fund

Top U1400 - 20% of Prize Fund

 

Jackson Purchase Blitz Champion: The top player who currently resides or attends school in the Jackson Purchase or designated surrounding countries will receive a trophy and the title of “Jackson Purchase Blitz Champion.”

You are eligible for this award if you currently reside in or attend school in the following counties: Ballard, Carlisle, Hickman, Fulton, McCracken, Graves, Marshall, Calloway, Livingston, Crittenden, Caldwell, Lyon, and Trigg.

Schedule:

Registration: Register anytime during the Murray Summer Open.

Round 1 will begin 45 minutes after the last game ends of the Mayfield Summer Open (dinner break and registration). Estimate: 6:00pm

 

All subsequent rounds will be started ASAP.

Boards and Pieces will be provided. Please bring clocks.
