2027 US Amateur Team South

FORMAT: (One open section) 5 Round Swiss, Minimum 4 players, maximum 5 players on a team. A team's rating is the average rating of the team's top 4 players' ratings (Jan. 2026 Supplement). Every team's rating must be < 2200 (strictly less than 2200). Up to 4 players can play in a given round; players must sit in rating order. The winning team qualifies for National Team Playoff with runner-up as an alternate team. 

ROUNDS/TIME-CONTROLS/BYES:  

2-DAY SCHEDULE: Saturday 3 rounds, Sunday 2 rounds Saturday G/80: d5 (round 1 only), Saturday: G/90 +15 incr. (rounds 2&3) Sunday: G/90 +15 incr. (rounds 4&5) 

3-DAY SCHEDULE: Friday 1 round, Saturday 2 rounds, Sunday 2 rounds Friday G/90: +15 incr. (round 1), Saturday: G/90 +15 incr. (rounds 2&3) Sunday: G/90 +15 incr. (rounds 4&5). 

BYES: ½-point byes (for the whole team only) are available for one round before start of round 2, zero-point bye any round with half hour notice. 

PRIZES/AWARDS: Team Championship Special commemorative chess clocks or chess board/pieces: The top scorer on: Board 1, Board 2, Board 3, Board 4 The top 4 boards of: The top team, Under prizes for teams u1900, u1600, u1300 Trophies/Plaques: Top Team ( Qty.4), 2nd Place Team (Qty.4), Senior Team, (All 50 years & above as of 1/29/2026) Qty.4, Industry Team (same company) Qty.4, College Team (same school) Qty.4, K-12 School Team (same school) Qty.4, All-Female Team (Qty.4), Club Team (Qty.4), Best Dress Team (Qty.4) and Best Upset Game (Qty.1). Alternates will receive a trophy/plaque for any team listed above.   

REGISTRATION: 1) Current USCF membership is required 2) There will be no on-site registration, only via on-line at Chessregister.com, or mailed checks. School teams can make arrangements with the organizers.  

TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP ENTRY: Special team entry fee (one entry must be made for all players) $230 by 1/8, $270 by 2/12 and $300 by 2/19. Single individual $60 by 1/8, $70 by 2/12, $80 by 2/19 (organizers to assist in team placement or creation of a new team).  All scholastic team entry fees will be $200 by 1/8, $225 by 2/12 and $250 by 2/19. Scholastic coaches contact the organizer if using a school purchase order. Refunds will be reduced by $15 from entry fee.

Awards Presentation to follow an hour after the last round.
