2026 Roanoke Winter Classic

OVERVIEW:

The Roanoke Winter Classic is a single-day, 4-round, two-section, USCF-rated tournament hosted by the Roanoke Valley Chess Club. There is a registration cap of 80 players.

PRIZE FUND:

$1000 - based on 40 players

Open:

1st place: $350

2nd place: $200

3rd place: $100

U1400:

1st place: $200

2nd place: $100

3rd place: $50

SCHEDULE:

Round 1: 11 AM

Round 2: 1 PM

Round 3: 3 PM

Round 4: 5 PM

ENTRY FEE:

Standard Entry - $45

Free Entry to WIMs, WGMs, IMs, and GMs

Online registration only. No on-site registration. Registration closes on January 31st, 2026 at 9 AM.

OTHER:

Byes/Withdrawals: All schedule changes such as Byes or Withdrawals must be submitted at least 1 hour before the relevant round starts.

Spectators: Parents/Spectators are not allowed in the playing hall, or to hover around the entry once rounds have started.

Other Prizes (Trophies, Plaques, etc.): Other prizes are awarded to first place in each section based on US Chess tiebreaks.

Equipment: All equipment will be provided (boards, clocks, pieces, notation sheets, pens).

Media Consent: By registering for or attending our event, you agree to have photos taken by RVCC & used for editorial/marketing purposes.

Refund Policy: No refunds upon registration. No exceptions granted outside of documented emergencies.

Unrated Players: Unrated players are not eligible for class prizes (i.e., Top U1800, Top U1000, etc.), but are eligible for place prizes in their section (i.e., 1st Place, 2nd Place, etc.)
