Ratings for Sectioning, Pairings, and Prizes:
- We use the higher of a player’s Over-the-Board Regular and Online Regular ratings from the December 2026 US Chess Rating Supplement. Established ratings override provisional ratings; “stale” ratings are reviewed by the Chief TD.
- Am I an Unrated Player? Any player with a Provisional US Chess Regular over-the-board or Regular online rating before the start of the tournament will NOT be paired as an Unrated Player. That rating will be used for pairing purposes, prizes, and section eligibility even if it is not listed in the December 2026 US Chess Rating Supplement. For players who do not have a US Chess rating, but are rated in other recognized systems (e.g., FIDE, Canada), their rating will be assigned by the Chief Arbiter using conversion formulas approved and published by the US Chess Federation’s Ratings Committee. If this is confusing (and it can be!) please contact Mike Hoffpauir (Click here to show mail address).
