2026 NJ HIGH SCHOOL CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP

FEB 28 & MAR 1, 2026. NEW JERSEY HIGH SCHOOL CHAMPIONSHIP 5SS, G/60 d5. Union County Vocational Technical School, 1776 Raritan Rd., Scotch Plains, NJ 07076. **UCVTS is located near the Police Academy on the far side of the campus**

FORMAT: INDIVIDUAL/TEAM: students will play as individuals in three sections.

1) VARSITY BRACKET (must be in Grades 9-12) - the 5 Highest Rated players from the same school will constitute a team. A second VARSITY team* may be entered consisting of the 6th through 10th highest rated players from the same school. Schools with fewer than 5 players and/or individuals may also enter this section. A minimum of 2 players per school is needed to be considered a team. TROPHIES to: top 5 Schools; top 10 individuals.

2) JUNIOR VARSITY BRACKET (must be in Grades 9-12) - the 4 Highest Rated players from the same school will constitute a team.  A second JUNIOR VARSITY team* may be entered consisting of the 5th through 8th highest rated players from the same school. Schools with less than 4 players and/or individuals may also enter this section. A minimum of 2 players per school is needed to be considered a team. TROPHIES to: top 5 Schools; top 10 individuals.

* NOTE: If a school has more than 1 team in the VARSITY and/or JV bracket, players from the different teams could end up playing each other.  Players from the same team will not play each other.

3) BOOSTER (grades K-12) Open to all grades, all ages. There will be 2 sub-sections in the Booster Section: Booster A for players with USCF rating of 1000 or higher; Booster B for players under with USCF rating below 1000.  Trophies to top 10 individuals in each sub-section.
ALL SECTIONS: USCF membership required. Entry Fee: before 9 pm 2/26/26, TEAMS: 5 players = $200; 4 players = $160; smaller TEAMS and Individuals = $40 per player.

Online registration closes at 9 pm on 2/26/26. After 2/26/26, registration on-site only (Check or Cash only - $50 per player and automatic ½ pt bye for round 1 only).

BYES: Byes may be requested for any round.  Byes will be zero-point byes except for round 1 (1/2 point bye)

REGISTRATION must include: Full name; USCF ID # and expiration date; School; Grade; Coaches and/or Parents phone number; Make checks payable to: NJSCF

ROUNDS: SAT - 10:30, 2:00, 4:45; SUN – 10:30, 2:00
