2026 HOUSTON 'QUICK CHESS' CITY CHAMPIONSHIP

FORMAT:  8 rounds of G/15,d5 on Saturday Jan. 10th.  One section.  USCF rated for Quick Chess only.   This tournament will not affect your regular rating. Keeping score (notation) is not required in Quick Chess!

QUALIFICATIONS: All chess players, regardless of residence, are welcome as long as they meet the membership requirements. You must have an unexpired USCF membership in good standing on the day of the tournament.

BYES: No byes.

SECTIONS:  Just one open section. 

SCHEDULE: Round 1 at 10am, others ASAP, one hour lunch break from about noon to 1. Last round should end about 4 or 4:30.

CAPACITY:  Limited to 72, so register early, it might sell out.  It is a City Championship event after all.

ENTRY FEES:  Just $30 by December 13th, $45 by December 27, $60 thereafter.  Poison Pawn members $25 anytime!  So isn't it time you joined?  GMs, IMs, WGMs & WIMs get free entry, entry fee deducted from any winnings - enter online and the free entry will be adjusted based on your title.

CANCELLATION:  You may cancel up to 24 hours before the beginning of round 1 and get a refund of what you paid minus $15.

PRIZES: $499 b/40. 1st place - $200, the title of "2026 Houston 'Quick Chess' City Champion", and a trophy. 2nd place $149.  1st U1600 wins $100, 2nd U1600 $50. All cash prizes paid via PayPal. In case of a tie for first place the trophy will be awarded using standard USCF tiebreakers:  Modified Median, Solkoff, Cumulative, Cumulative Opponent's score.  Non members of Poison Pawns are only eligible for 75% of cash prizes. CLOCKS, SETS & BOARDS:  Please bring your own if you can, there might be enough equipment at The Studio but depending on the turnout there might not be, and Poison Pawns Club members get first dibs on those.  Know how to set your clock to G/15,d5!!    

HOTELS: Holiday Inn Express, 3401 N. Main St., is less than a mile from The Studio. Phone 832-834-6197 and ask for The Houston Chess Studio discount, or if booking online use code ALDR9.  Also within a mile is the Heights House Hotel, an America’s Best Value, and a Luxury Inn.  Google them for info.

WHERE:  THE HOUSTON CHESS STUDIO,  is dedicated to providing a quality, high tech, chess playing experience for players of all levels, and their parents.  Centrally and conveniently located at 250 Patton St., Suite H, Houston TX 77009.  Just inside North Loop 610 and just 2 blocks off North I-45.  There are 3 restaurants in the same strip center as The Studio: The Red Hot Noodle (Asian), Subway, and Patron Pizza.  Several others are within walking distance.  Plenty of FREE parking.

SCANNING: All players are subject to being scanned (“wanded”) in order to help prevent cheating.
