The 2025 US Amateur West National Championship (Individual) is your chance to compete at a national level! This USCF-rated event offers a friendly yet competitive environment to test your skills and earn national recognition, all while gaining valuable experience. Whether you're aiming for personal bests or just some challenging games, this championship is a must-play for dedicated chess enthusiasts.

        ‣ Sun, 9/21 - 9:30 a.m., 2:15 p.m.
    • 2-day option:
      • Rounds: 6
      • Time Controls: 3x G/61 d5, 3x G/90 +30
      • Round Times:
        ‣ Sat, 9/20 - 9:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m., 2:50 p.m., 6:00 p.m.
        ‣ Sun, 9/21 - 9:30 a.m., 2:15 p.m.
  • ½-point byes are available for any round (Max byes: 3; byes must be requested at least 30 min before that round's start except last round byes; last round bye must be requested latest before Round 3)
  • 0-point byes are available for any round (player must play at least half the rounds to be eligible for prizes)

Sections:

  • Players will be placed into one of the three sections based on September 2025 Published Supplement rating:
    • XA (1800-2199)
    • BC (1400-1799)
    • DE (1000-1399)
  • A player may pay to play up one higher section, double play up is NOT allowed.
  • Players must be within 300 points of the rating cutoff to play up, and within 200 points in highest section.
    (Note: The rating used to determine if a player may play up is their September 2025 Published Supplement rating.)

Prizes:

  • Clocks for:
    • Top 2 players in each section,
    • Top u2000, u1600 & u1200 players.
  • Trophies for:
    • all remaining players with a winning record.

Fees:

  • Entry: $99
  • Re-entry: $60
  • Play up fee: +$39
  • Discount for BayAreaChess Basic/Premium Members (More Info)
  • Onsite fee: +$40 (membership discounts are not redeemable onsite)

Other requirements:

  • USCF membership must be active.
