SUNDAY FIDE
TOURNAMENT SERIES

- One round will be played on each of the following Sundays:
- 9/21, 10/12, 11/9, 11/23, 12/7, 12/14
All rounds start at 11:30 AM (Donatos opens at 11 AM)
- Location: Donatos on Campus: 2084 N High St, Columbus, OH 43201. We will play in the basement. Free street parking on Sundays.
Capacity: 50-player limit
- Sections:
- Open (US Chess and FIDE Rated)
U1800 (US Chess and FIDE Rated)
- Eligibility:
- Open: Players must be at least 1700 according to the September Supplement (or if their live rating was at least 1700 in the last 30 days prior to registration). Players between 1500-1699 may play in the Open if they pay a $30 play-up fee. No players allowed below 1500.
- U1800: Players must be at least 1400 according to the September Supplement (or if their live rating was at least 1400 in the last 30 days prior to registration). Players between 1200-1399 may play in the U1800 if they pay a $30 play-up fee. No players allowed below 1200.
- Players must have current US Chess Federation membership. Expiration date of their US Chess membership must be later than the last day of the tournament.
NOTE: Organizer has a right to combine sections based on the number of participants for each section. If players paid a “play-up” fee, the $30 will be refunded. Players under 1200 may play in the Sunday Quads.
- Total Prize Fund: $800 based on 40 paid entries

- Round 1:
- Online registration open until 9 AM on Sunday, 9/21
- Onsite registration allowed from 11:00 AM - 11:15 AM on 9/21
- Pairings will be published at 11:20 AM
- 2 half-point byes allowed, must be requested by 6 PM on Saturday,11/8
- Rounds 2 and 3:
- Pairings will be published shortly after 6 PM on the Saturday before (10/11 for Round 2, 11/8 for Round 3)
- A player may join the tournament late with up to two, half-point byes for the rounds they missed. They must email Kathy to enter the tournament by 6 PM the Saturday before to be considered for pairings (10/11 for Round 2, 11/8 for Round 3).
- No on-site entries allowed
- Rounds 4 through 6:
- Pairings will be published shortly after 6 PM the Saturday before
- No additional entries will be taken
- $10 admin fee for all cancellations & refunds before 9 PM, 9/20
No re-entries in any section
- Tournament Format
- 6 Round Swiss System
- Time control: 80 min basetime + 10 sec increment
- Each round starts at 11:30 AM
- US Chess rating will be used for section determination and pairings. FIDE or other ratings are only used if no US Chess rating is available. Pairings are based on the Sept 2025 supplemental regular US Chess rating.
- Round 1 pairings will be done on Sunday, 9/21 at 11:20 AM onsite. If you need a Round 1 bye, please email us by 9 AM on 9/21.
Round 2 through 6 byes must be requested before the pairing of the round by Saturday, 6 PM. Pairings usually are posted shortly after 6 PM on Saturday the day before the round. ½-point byes for any round must be requested by 6 PM on 11/8
- Forfeit time:
- 30 minutes without prior notice
- 60 minutes with prior notice (e.g., something came up and you plan on making the round, you just will be late). Please email or call Kathy ASAP.
A player will be awarded a forfeit win against any opponent who doesn't show up according to the prescribed rules, and every effort will be made to find that player an extra game.
- We provide the sets; players, please bring your own clocks. Players must use the scoresheets provided; no electronic scoresheets allowed.
