Provisionally rated players may not win an amount greater than 40% of the top prize in any under section; balance goes to next player(s) in line.
Beginners (unrated, rated under 800, or provisionally rated under 1250): 3 schedules with 5 rounds per day. $300-200-100 each day plus $400-300-200 overall (best 2 results count) Age 15 and above.
Unrated players may play only in Beginners, Open, or U2300 Section.
Plus-Score Bonus: ($25,000 guaranteed) in addition to any other prizes, every player with a plus score wins a $50 gift certificate. Plus score certificates will be awarded on site only.
Mixed Doubles: best male/female combined 2-player team score: $1,500-750-350. Average rating below 2200; teammates may play in different sections. Only rounds 1-7 count for Open Section or best day for Beginners. Register on site only (no extra fee) before both players have started round 2.
The Freddie: Players age 14 and under are eligible for best game prizes including the Freddie Award and $400 in cash prizes
Ratings
June FIDE ratings used in Open section, June US Chess ratings in all other sections. Online ratings, CCA minimum ratings or other ratings may be used if higher. Players rated more than 100 points higher than the section limit during the last year may be moved to a higher section. The decision of the chief tournament director regarding eligibility or rating adjustments is final.
Entry Fees
Open: $249 by 4/30, $269 by 5/26, $289 later. $200 more for players not rated at least 2200 or FIDE 2100. GM, WGM & foreign IM free by 5/26. $60 discount for IM or WIM by 5/26.
Under sections: $249 by 4/30, $269 by 5/26, $289 later. $100 play-up fee if rated more than 300 points below section limit or unrated (except U1250).
Beginners: $129 1 day, $189 2 days, $229 3 days, $31 more after 5/26
All: Early Bird Loyalty discount $50 by 1/31 for players who have played in any previous National Open event. Senior (over 65) discount $40 by 5/26. All entry fees $31 more on site.

5-day: Register Wednesday 4-5 p.m. Rounds 6:30, 1-6:30, 1-6:30, 10-3:30, 10-3:30.
4-day: Register Thursday 2-5 p.m. Rounds 6:30, 1-6:30, 10-3:30, 10-3:30
3-day: Register Friday 9-10:30 a.m. Rounds 12-3; merge with 4-day in round 3 at 6:30
2-day: Register Saturday 8-8:30 a.m. Rounds 9-10:30-12-1:30; merge with 4-day in round 5 at 3:30
Beginners: Rounds Friday 1-2:30-4-6:30-8, Saturday/Sunday 10-11:30-1-3:30-5.
Half point byes available in any round if requested at least 2 hours in advance. Sunday and last round byes must be requested before the start of round 4 and may not be cancelled.
Chess sets and boards provided for tournament play only, not for skittles. Please bring digital chess clocks!
