NOTE: This tournament is for players in Grades K-6 Only (6th grade must play in a rated section)

Format: 5 Round Swiss: G/30; d5 for all rounds for Nonrated sections, U400, and U1000. 4 Round Swiss: G/45; d5 for all rounds for the Open section. All students play all games, no elimination. Notation is not required for players except in the Open section. Sets and clocks will be provided. One ½-point bye allowed if requested before Round 2.

Sections:                          

·       K - 3 Nonrated: Includes all nonrated players in grades K-2

·       4 - 5 Nonrated: Includes all nonrated players in grades 3-5

·       K - 6 Rated U400: Designed for rated players in grades K-6 rated under 400 points. Ideal for players competing in their first rated tournament

·       K - 6 Rated U1000: Designed for rated players in grades K-6 rated under 1000 points

·       K - 6 Rated Open: Designed for rated players in grades K-6 of all ratings; the most competitive section.

NOTE: Players with more than 10 rated games are not eligible for the nonrated sections. Players in the rated sections must be registered with https://www.uschess.org before the tournament. November ratings will be used. Organizer has right to adjust sections based on the number of entries for the rated sections.

Schedule:

8:15 – 8:45: Self-check-in. No section changes after 8:45 AM

9:00 – 9:10: Announcements

9:10: Round 1 Begins

Subsequent rounds will start once everyone in the section finishes. Players are scheduled to play all rounds (no elimination). Estimated end time for nonrated sections: 2:30 PM. Estimated end time for U400 and U1000: 3:30 PM. Estimated end time for Open: 4 PM.

$35 for all registrations until November 1st; thereafter $40 registration fee until 8:00 PM November 7th. Discounted entry fee for students with financial need are available. Contact Kathy Lin for more information. No on-site registrations. To register by mail, go to the registration website to access the mail-in registration form. Refunds for withdrawals with $5 administrative fee will be given if requested by 8:00 PM, November 7th. No refunds thereafter. 

Awards: Trophies to all players achieving a score of 3.5 points or higher in the nonrated sections, U400, and U1000. Trophies to top 3 players in the Open section. Trophies to top 3 teams (school only) in each section (top 4 scores count for team). All students will receive a medal or keychain.

Concessions: Concessions will be available on-site for purchase (cash and Venmo).

Directions: Ecole Kenwood Elementary is located at 3770 Shattuck Ave, Columbus, OH, 43220. Please park in the main parking lot (spaces or curbside).  In the small parking lot, please park only in the spaces.  Please do not park curbside in the small lot, because that is the fire lane.  Parking on nearby streets is also available.
