Event Overview
Players aged 50 and over (by July 29) compete in five rounds (G/60;d5) on March 16-17 at the 2024 Texas Senior Chess Championship.
- Entry Fee: $65 if received by February 29, 2024, otherwise $80.
- US Chess and TCA Memberships Required.
- G/60;d5 | US Chess Federation Rules
- Rounds: Saturday 10:00 am, 2:00 pm, 6:00 pm; Sunday 9:00 am, 1:00 pm.
- Tiebreak round if two players have perfect scores after five rounds.
- One 1/2 point bye (rounds 1-4 only) is allowed if requested before round one.

State Senior Champion
The Texas resident with the highest score after round five will be named, "Texas Senior Champion". If two or more Texas residents are tied with the highest score after round five, they will all be named co-champions.
National Tournament of Senior State Champions
The Texas Senior Champion will be eligible to represent Texas in the 7th Annual John T. Irwin National Tournament of Senior State Champions and will receive a stipend of $500 to help cover expenses of attendance at the event. If there are co-champions, the player with the highest place finish as described below will represent Texas in the national tournament and receive the $500 stipend.
Place Prizes
Plaques will be awarded to top finishers. If after five rounds, two players have perfect scores, a sixth round will be played between the two players to determine first and second place. Otherwise, all places will be determined by score and US Chess Federation standard tie-breaks. Standard tie-breaks are 1) Modified Median, 2) Solkoff, 3) Cumulative, 4) Cumulative of Opposition.
