2024 New Year Chess Festival

Enjoy a day with a variety of different chess opportunities. The day will focus on faster time control but will have something for everyone.

K-12 Morning Scholastic! (K-12)
This section will not be USCF-rated and will be an open-style event. If your kids want to try tournament chess this would be a great event to jump into.

Time: 9:00-11:30
Rounds: 5 (Starting at 9:00 and will go as fast as we can)
Entry Fee: $20
Prizes: 1st Place Overall – $75 (b/10), 2nd Place – Free GRCC Membership Extension

Adult Beginner Open
This tournament will not be USCF-rated and cost only $20 to play! It will be for adult beginner players who are interested in experiencing a tournament. It will be managed like a USCF event but will not require that membership.

Time: 9:00-12:30
Rounds: 4, Starting at 9:00AM
Entry Fee: $15
Time Control: G/15;d0 (15 minutes per side)
Round Schedule: 9:00, 9:45, 10:45, 11:30
Prizes: 1st Place – $75 (b/15)

All-Day Rapid!
This event is USCF-rated and will be either one open section (less than 15 players) or two sections split in half (more than 15 players).

Time: 10:00 – 3:30
Time Control: G/15+10
Rounds: 10:00, 11:00, 12:30, 1:30, 2:30
Entry Fee: $30 ($25 for GRCC Members)
Prizes: 1st Place Overall – $175 (b/20), 2nd Place – $100 (or top in the second section)

Afternoon Blitz!
This event is USCF-rated and will be one open section. We will play six or seven rounds depending on turnout.

Time: 3:30/45
Time Control: G/5;d0
Rounds: 3:30 and go until finished
Entry Fee: $15
Prize: 1st Place – $60 b/10
