Event Overview

US Chess Membership is Required. All US Chess Rules will be followed. Notation is required in all sections. Players 8 years old or younger (or their parents) can ask the tournament director before Round 1 for an exemption, if they are still learning to write in general.

Players younger than high school age (~14) must be accompanied by an adult.

Two Sections: 

  • Open - Open to all players
  • U1201 - Players must have a USCF Regular Rating below 1201. Unrated players may play in this section, however they are only eligible for place prizes.

USCF Quick or Blitz ratings may be used for section eligibility purposes for players without a regular rating.

Format:

Time Control

4 Rounds SS; G/45+5 (Clocks will be set with 45 minutes per player, and a 5 second increment that adds back after each move)

Entry Fee:

  • On or before October 19: $25
  • After October 19: $35

Players who have earned a non-provisional regular USCF rating of at least 2200 anytime in the last 9 months will receive free entry (no prize deductions) - AKA Masters play for free!

Prizes:

Based on 30 paid entries

Open

  • 1st - $140
  • 2nd - $115
  • 3rd - $80
  • Top U1401/Unrated - $50

U1201

  • 1st - $40
  • 2nd - $35
  • 3rd - $25
  • Top U1000 - $15

USCF Quick or Blitz ratings may be used for prize eligibility purposes for players without a regular rating. Unrated players playing in the U1201 section are only eligible for place prizes (i.e. 1st-3rd). Unrated players are eligible for the U1401 prize in the Open section.

Schedule:

  • Onsite Registration and Check-In: 9:00am-9:45am
  • Round 1: 10:00am
  • Round 2: 12:30pm
  • Round 3: ASAP
  • Round 4: ASAP
  • Estimated end: 6:00pm

Players arriving after registration will receive one half-point bye and will be paired in subsequent rounds. Up to two half-point byes are available to each player. Any additional byes will be zero-point byes. Byes may be requested for any round during registration only.

Boards, pieces, and clocks will be provided.

Board 1 in the Open Section may be streamed via Facebook Live or YouTube.
