2024 Annual JL All-Girls Chess Tournament

On Saturday, April 27th the Internetional Chess Academy (ICA) will be hosting the 3rd Annual JL All-Girls Chess Tournament in honor of John Moldovan.

All chess materials (boards, clocks, scoresheets) will be provided.

Registration will close on Friday, April 26th at 11:59pm

Tournament details:

• 3 round Swiss (everyone plays every round regardless of how they do)

• G/30 with a 5 second delay

• 2 sections: Rated & Non-rated. Rated section requires a USCF Membership.

• First round will be at 2:00, and the others will proceed ASAP.

• No entry fee, but donation of at least 5 donated food/toiletry items is strongly encouraged.

• Maximum 30 entrants.

• Jessica will be giving a lecture to beginners from 1:20 p.m. to 1:45 p.m.

• Doors open for beginners attending the lecture at 1:00 pm.

• Doors open for all others at 1:45 p.m.

• The tournament will start at 2 pm

The entry fee for the tournament is $10. All proceeds will go towards the John Moldovan Scholarship Essay Contest, which all middle school students, regardless of gender, are eligible for. To enter, please submit a 500 word essay to both jessicalinlee06@gmail.com and icanewjersey@gmail.com. The topic of the essay is as follows:

John Moldovan was known to have played a supportive role for many young chess players. Consider what chess means to you and share who provided guidance as you progressed in your chess journey.
