Sections:

Elementary Reserve (K-5): Grades K-5 with ratings below 500

Elementary Premier (K-5): Grades K-5 with ratings below 1000

HS/MS Reserve (6-12): Grades 6-12 with ratings below 500

HS/MS Premier (6-12): Grades 6-12 with ratings below 1000

Championship (K-12): Includes top rated players from all grade levels

 

Note that all sections are rated. Players must have an active US Chess membership prior to the tournament. September ratings will be used. Notation is required in all sections except Elementary Reserve. Players should bring their own clock if they have one. Sets will be provided. Sections may change if there are too few participants in any section. If this happens, you will be notified.

 

Format:

Elementary Reserve, Elementary Premier, HS/MS Reserve, HS/MS Premier: 5 Round Swiss, G30;d5

Championship: 4 Round Swiss: G45;d5

Students play all rounds; no elimination. Unrated players may choose any appropriate section.

 

Schedule:

8:30 – 8:45: Self-check-in. No section changes after 8:45 AM

8:55: Announcements

9:00: Round 1

Subsequent rounds will start once everyone in the section finishes.

 

Registration and Entry Fee:

Register at columbuschessacademy.org. $30 for all online registrations until September 23rd; thereafter $40 registration fee. Can register on-site for $40 up until 8:45 PM. Two half-point byes may be requested before the start of round 2. USCF discounted membership: $13, must request when registering. Refunds for withdrawals with $5 administrative fee will be given if requested by 6:00 PM, September 23rd.  No refunds thereafter. Discounted entry fee for students with financial need are available. Awards:

For all sections trophies to the top 5 players. Trophies awarded to top 3 teams in each section. A team consists of students who attend the same school. Top four players’ scores count towards team score. Each player will receive a participation medal or keychain. Awards will be conducted as sections finish.

 

Concessions: Concessions will be available on-site for purchase (cash or card).
