March 3 - 5, 2023.  7-SS, McAllen Convention Center, 700 Convention Center Blvd., McAllen, TX 78501.  Open to Texas students only! HOTEL INFORMATION - See tournament website. February 2023 US Chess Rating Supplement used for pairings and prizes. US Chess membership required, current through March 31, 2023, or later. The Texas Chess Association (TCA) has a limited number of US Chess membership vouchers which would save participants of this event needing a membership a significant amount of money (for the US Chess membership only, not the tournament entry fee).  See tournament website for details.  ELEVEN SECTIONS:  High School (9 - 12) Championship, High School (9 - 12) JV (Under 1000), Middle School (6 - 8) Championship, Middle School (6 - 8) JV (Under 900), Middle School (6 - 8) Novice (Under 600), Elementary School (K - 5/6) Championship, Elementary School (K - 5/6) JV (Under 800), Elementary School (K - 5/6) Novice (Under 500), Primary School (K - 3) Championship. Primary School (K - 3) JV (Under 600), K - 1 Championship. For grade exceptions for schools having different grade designation for Middle or Elementary School see tournament website.  If a player does not have an established US Chess rating (over-the-board or online) in the February 2023 US Chess Rating Supplement (and is therefore "unrated"), then he/she may play in any section allowed for his/her grade.   ROUND TIMES: Varies; see tournament website.  AWARDS:  Trophies to top 20 Individuals in each of the 11 sections, Trophies to top 15 Teams in each of the 11 sections, Plus-Score Trophies for all players scoring four (4) or more points, not receiving top 20 trophies, Commemorative medals for all participants. Grand Champions Trophies to the Top five (5) Schools in each of the four major championships.  A school may win a section trophy and a Grand Champion trophy.  $6,200 in TCA Scholarships in the High School Championship Section!  Winners of Championship Sections, including ties, will be declared 2023 Texas State Champions. The winners of the top three championship sections will qualify for the 2023 US Chess National Invitational Events (Denker, Barber and Rockefeller).  The top two girls in the top three Championship Sections qualify for a playoff to determine the Texas representative at the Haring Tournament of Girls State Champions.  ENTRY FEE: $44 by midnight (Central), February 3, $56 by midnight (Central), February 24, $74 after February 24 or on site.  Withdrawals are subject to a $5 processing fee per player.  No refunds will be given for withdrawals after March 2.
