US Chess Junior Grand Prix!

2023 National K-12 Grade Championships

Format: 7SS, G/90 d10.  13 Sections. Play only in your grade section – No “playing up” allowed. December Rating Supplement will be used.

Site:  Hyatt Regency Orlando, 9801 International Drive, Orlando FL 32819.  Guest rooms can be booked, NLT 11/20/2023, by visiting the tournament website or calling (407) 284-1234, mention “US Chess”. HR: $169 Single/Double (fees and applicable taxes not included).

Byes:  Up to two 1/2-point byes available, if requested prior to the start of Rd. 1.

Scoring:  Team score = total of top three (minimum two) finishers from each school per grade. First place individual and team, including ties, will be the National Champion for their grade.

Schedule: Opening ceremony Fri. 12:45 PM. Round start times: Fri. 1 PM & 6 PM, Sat. 9 AM, 1:30 PM, & 6 PM, Sun. 9 AM & 1:30 PM. Awards Ceremony: Sun., approx. 5 PM.  Special round times for K-1 sections: Fri. 1:30 PM & 5:30 PM, Sat. 9:30 AM, 1:30 PM, & 5:30 PM, Sun. 9:30 AM & 1:30 PM. K-1 Awards Ceremony:  Sun. approx. 4:30 PM.

EF: $80/participant postmarked or online by 11/20, $100 postmarked or online by 11/27, $130 by 12/4, $180 after.  $40 fee for roster or section changes after 12/4 or any onsite changes.

Registration:  Online registration closes at 11am Eastern 12/14. NO ON-SITE REGISTRATION.  No phone entries.  Players who change sections after 11 AM on Friday will receive a 1/2-point bye for Rd. 1.

Awards: Awards to top individuals & top teams in each grade. Every player receives a commemorative medal! Full list of awards on tournament info page.

Side Events: Bughouse: Thurs. 11 AM, Reg. onsite only Thurs. 9-10 AM, $40/team. Bughouse Awards: Top 5 Teams. Blitz: K-6 and K-12, G/5 d0, Thurs. 5 PM, Reg. onsite until 3 PM. Blitz EF: $40 by 11/27, $60 after or at site. Blitz Awards: Awards in K-6 and K-12 sections.  Full list of awards on tournament info page.
