Event Overview

8th Annual Event!  A relaxed schedule, intimate atmosphere, rustic secluded venue and natural surroundings all combine to make this popular event a unique and memorable weekend!  Players age 18 & up from any state welcome!

NEW!! Bring an interesting or unusual set to display.  Best of Show by a vote of the players will receive a $25 lodge gift certificate.

Site: Salt Fork State Park Lodge*.  $139/night group room rate Friday & Saturday evenings, and special rates on cabins, some pet friendly.  Call 800-ATA-PARK for reservations, ask for Golden Buckeye Chess Tournament room block, good through August 26th.  Reserve early to ensure room on site, other hotels are 30 minutes away.  Caution!  Not all GPS units will direct you correctly to the park lodge.  Use the main park entrance on State Route 22, six miles east of I-77 from Exit 47.  Follow park signs to the lodge, seven miles from the entrance on park Road 3.

2 Sections (age as of December 31, 2023): Senior Championship (50 & older only), Adult U1800 (ages 18 and up; under 18 may enter with organizer approval if accompanied by another adult player).  An open section for ages 18-49 will be added if 6 or more commit in advance, contact the organizer if interested.

Format: 5 round Swiss, G/75, d10.  One ½-point bye rounds 1-4, commit by end of round 2.  Sets provided, please bring clocks!  Optional Friday evening blitz for all ages, see details below.  Bonfire social Saturday evening, weather permitting.

Prizes: Trophies to top players in each section.  Ohio Senior Champion title & trophy to top-finishing Ohio resident in Senior section.  First time players in this event, and returning players who recruit first time players, will be entered in drawings for a gift certificate good towards on-site lodging, gift shop or restaurant purchases.  Gift certificate also awarded for Best of Show chess set as noted above.

Entry Fee: $45 for entries paid by 9/25, $55 thereafter.  No checks at door.  Enter online (check or credit card) or mail entry with check payable to Fellowship of the King Chess Club, c/o Grant Neilley, 13270 Saylor Rd, Baltimore, OH 43105.  Refund less $5 admin fee if withdraw by noon 9/29, then 50% until end of registration.  Online entry/payment recommended due to increasing mail theft and delivery issues; if you do mail, send as early as possible to ensure receipt.

Schedule: Registration Sat 9-9:45am, rounds 10-2:15-6:30; Sunday 9:30-1:15.  Bonfire social Saturday evening, weather permitting.  Optional Friday evening rated blitz open to all ages, G5 d/2, register on site by 7:45pm, round 1 8pm.  Entry fee $10, 60-70% paid out as prizes, pairings & rounds at TD discretion.
