Location: In the heart of downtown Washington DC near the White House and Metro Center

 

Closest Metro Train Station: Metro Center (Blue, Orange, Red and Silver Lines) Indiana University at The Willard Office Building is two blocks away from the Metro Center Train Station.

 

Entry Fee: $40 + taxes by 9/8. No entries are accepted after this date. No refunds on entries unless the event is canceled!

 

Parking: Metered parking is available and parking in the Willard Office Building parking garage cost between $22 - $35.

 

Purpose: This event is to honor the life and legacy of International Chess Master IM Emory Tate a five time United States Armed Forces Chess Champion and a six time Indiana State Chess Champion.

Trophies are awarded to the 1st place winners in the Open Section, Under 1600 and Under 1200. Cash prizes are awarded based on the total number of entries received. The Open Section payout is as follows 1st Place 40% of all money received, 2nd Place 20%, 3rd place 10%, 1st Place Under 1600 5% and 1st Place Under 1200 5%. Under 1600 players and Under 1200 players are also eligible to win any 1st, 2nd or 3rd place prize (double prizes) based on their performance.

 

Players will play 7SS USCF rated blitz games (This event is open to adults and kids). USCF Membership is required to participate. No elimination! Each game is 5 minutes with no delay. Possible 5 - minute blitz playoff if necessary to determine who wins the tie breaker. Game times are 6:30pm, 6:50pm, 7:10pm, 7:30pm, 7:50pm, 8:10pm & 8:30pm with a trophy ceremony following the final match. Please arrive between 6:00pm - 6:20pm for check-in, rounds start exactly at 6:30pm. Players should bring their own sets and clocks. Chess equipment is not provided! No half point byes are provided.

 

All prizes are guaranteed! Regardless of turnout! Please do not bring any guest to this event unless you are a parent bringing their child, space is limited. Parents are not allowed in the playing area but are welcome to stay in the lobby area. Space is limited to the first 50 players who register.
