Format:

5SS; G/100, inc/5; (2-day schedule, round 1, G/60, inc/5)

Sections & Prizes:

Master (2200+): $1600 – $800 – $500 – $300; top U2400: $600 – $300
Expert (2000-2199): $1000 – $600 – $400
Class A (1800-1999): $800 – $500 – $300
Class B (1600-1799): $600 – $400 – $300
Class C (1400-1599): $500 – $300 – $200
Class D (1200-1399): $500 – $300 – $200
Under 1200: $500 – $300 – $200


Official June USCF ratings used. Players may request to use latest unofficial US Chess rating if higher. This will be used if player would otherwise be unrated.
Players rated within 100 points of next higher section may play one section up.
Unrated players may enter Under 1200 or Class D sections and are eligible for prizes.
All prizes paid on site on Sunday, June 25, or mailed on Monday, June 26.

For players winning prize money of $600 or over, and for non-resident aliens winning prize money of any amount:
FOR PRIZES OF $600 OR MORE, you will be required to fill out a W-9 from with your taxpayer identification number (TIN), and current address before your prize check will be issued.  For most people, the TIN will be your social security number.

FOR ALL PRIZES, IF YOU ARE A NON-RESIDENT ALIEN (no US Social Security number), Castle Chess Inc. must withhold and send to the IRS 30% of your prize. You must either complete a form W-8-BEN or a provide a copy of your form 8233 (if you are exempt from backup withholding).

IF 30% OF YOUR PRIZE IS WITHHELD AND SUBMITTED TO THE IRS, you will receive a 1042 form in the following calendar year, no later than March. You may use this form to submit a tax return to the IRS, claim expenses, and attempt to recover some or all of the withheld tax.

Entry Fee: $110 by June 22. $125 later or on-site.  Re-entry: $60.  Castle Chess Campers who pay for the tournament with camp entry do not need to register separately.

Castle Chess Campers who pay for the tournament with camp entry do not need to register separately.

Rounds:

3-day schedule: Friday 6:30pm, Saturday 1:00pm & 6:00pm, Sunday 9:30am & 2:00pm.

2-day schedule: Round 1, G/60 inc/5, at 10:00 am Saturday, then merge with 3-day schedule Saturday 1:00pm.

Two half-point byes available, commit before round 1. All byes requested during the tournament are zero point.

All parking at Emory University is in either Fishburne or Peavine parking decks. Please allow at least 15 minutes time to walk from parking to the Emory Student Center.

Refunds: A full refund minus a 5% transaction fee is available for withdrawals by Thursday, June 22.  No refunds after 6/22.

Castle Chess campers have the opportunity to register as part of the camp registration process and continue their room and board plan through the weekend, OR if they prefer to stay elsewhere and eat on their own over the weekend, they can select the “camp only” option and then register for the tournament separately.
