Closest Metro Train Station: Friendship Heights (Red Line) Embassy Suites Hotel is directly across the street from the Friendship Heights Metro Station.

529 College Savinigs Plans in the amounts listed above are awarded to the top three place finishers in each section along with trophies. The 529 College Savings Plans application will be given to the winners based on the state or district which the students resides. While supplies last a free autographed copy of the book You Need A Schoolhouse: Booker T Washington, Julius Rosenwald and the Building of Schools...  donated by Author Stephanie Deutsch will be given to participating students who play in the tournament. Stephanie Deutsh will attend the event and speak briefly before the tournament starts. This tournament is to honor the life and legacy of Booker T Washington and Julius Rosenwald two great men who believed and fought for equal access to education for all children from all walks of life.

 

Students will play 5SS USCF rated games. USCF Membership is required. No elimination! Each game is 30 minutes with no delay. Possible 5-minute blitz playoff if necessary to determine who wins the tie breaker / championship. Game times are 10:00am, 11:30am, 2:30pm, 4:00pm and 5:30pm with the trophy ceremony following the final match. Please arrive by 9:00am for check-in, rounds start exactly at 10:00am. Players should bring their own sets and clocks. Chess equipment is not provided! No byes are provided. Entries “MUST” be received by Friday April 28, 2023 no entries are accepted after this date. No registration accepted or will take place the day of the event. Special prizes are awarded to students who solve chess problems / puzzles. Students in lower grades may play in higher sections if they desire.  All cash prizes guaranteed! Parents are not allowed in the playing area but are welcome to stay in the hotel lobby area. Space is limited to so we ask that only one parent or guardian attend per participant. Space is limited to the first 50 students who register.
