2021 (62nd Annual) US Armed Forces Open Chess Championship

FREE ENTRANCE FEE with Proof of Eligibility. US Chess membership required for ALL. Again, FREE entry if registered by September 25, 2020.  $20 surcharge after that.  Please register early.  It helps our fundraising.  EARLY CHECK IN is encouraged and can be accomplished on Friday, October 8 starting at 5:00 PM in the Fallen Timbers Room on the fifth floor.  Onsite registration is Saturday, October 9, 8:00 AM to 8:45 AM in the Fallen Timbers Room.

Two sections.  Both are FIDE rated.  5 Rounds, Swiss System.  TL: G/90; +30 Inc.   Round times:  Saturday, 10/9/21, 9:30 AM and 2:30 PM; Sunday, 10/10/21, 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM; Monday, 10/11/2021, 9:00 AM.  Group photos are on Monday, 10/11/21 at 8:45 AM.  A single half-point bye is available. Byes must be requested 30 minutes prior to the start of round 2. Byes for rounds 4 & 5 may not be cancelled after the start of round 2. Players entering after the start of round 1 will receive a round 1 half-point bye.

Section One (AFO) is open to Active Duty, Military Retirees, Cadets, Midshipmen, College ROTC, and Mobilized.  Show ID card.  Section Two (VOC) is open to all other Honorably Discharged Veterans.  Show DD 214 or VA Card.

Side events include Opening Flag Ceremony by American Legion Post 379 (from Bedford, Texas), Bug House Championship, Texas Hold 'em, Blitz Championship, Armed Forces Chess Committee Meeting, and Veterans Banquet.  Group photos on Monday, 10/11/21, just before Round 5.  Awards ceremony right after Round 5.  Everyone is requested to wear Class A uniforms or business attire on Monday, 10/11/21.

Reservation ID CHESSCHAMP.  All rooms are suites.   Each has 2 queen-size beds and one pull-out cot that sleeps two.   Maximum occupancy is six (6) guests.  CUT OFF date for special Chess Rate is 9/7/21. $150 plus Hotel Occupancy Tax (6 percent) plus Daily Resort Fee of $19.99 per suite. A few players may be eligible for waiver of the Hotel Occupancy Tax if certain criteria are met.
