POPULAR EVENT – Our last event 50+ players, & U2200 Section with 17 Players

Format: 4SS, G/30; d5 – Format: 4SS, G/30; d5 – 4 Rounds.
Round 1 starts around 10:00 AM. Rounds will continue continuously afterward

 

  • Sections & PRIZES $300 b/25 Paid Entries & Trophies
    * OPEN = 1st Place = $125; 2nd Place = $75
    * U1500 = 1st Place $65 & 1st Place Trophy; 2nd Place $35
    * U1000 = Trophies will be awarded to top 3 players
    * U600 = Trophies will be awarded to Top 3 players
     

FREE USCF MEMBERSHIP FOR 1st -TIME UNRATED TOURNAMENT PLAYERS
1st-Time New players (Unrated without USCF membership) will receive a
FREE $20 USCF “Youth” Membership INCLUDED with $25 registration.

ADDITIONAL TOURNAMENT INFORMATION

  • FREE PIZZA & DRINKS served during event. Please Pre-Register.
  • Entry Fee: Advance Entry is $25. On-site day of event entry fee is $10.00 more.
  • Register here online by 03/31/2023. Pre-registration check-in from 9:20 – 9:50 AM.
  • Players can always play “up” in a higher section. Late entries 1/2 pt. bye, or be paired with late entries
  • Scholarships are available (Free Entry Fee) please email Ocean State Chess Association in advance
  • Byes must be requested in advance. Tournament will run continuous after each round.
  • Please park in rear of building (Near Tennis Courts) Look for signs.
  • Chess sets & clocks will be provided. However, please bring a chess clock if you have one.

PAUL E. TAYLOR (1924-2011) – Paul E. Taylor, 87, of Warwick, passed away August 26, 2011. He was the beloved husband of Eleanor M. (Gearing) Taylor, with whom he was married for 61 years. Mr. Taylor was the international marketing manager & engineer for Brown & Sharpe Mfg. Co., retiring after 45 years of service. He served in the United States Army during World War II. He was an avid chess player and fisherman and in his retirement organized several chess clubs for both youth and seniors and was himself a Class A tournament player. He also ran multiple scholastic youth tournaments, donating the trophies and his time for free. The Ocean State High School League Championship Trophy is named the “TAYLOR TROPHY” in honor of his work in scholastic chess and his years running the chess league.
