Four Sections:  All compete for section Grand Prix prize.

Closed (Over 1700); Limited (1200-1700); Open (Under 1200/Unrated); G/60 (all ratings)

Minimum Players Per Section: G/25 - 4 player minimum; G/60 - two player minimum. May have to play same opponent twice. If less than minimum players, section merges with next lower section. If a section has an odd # of players for a round, the lowest ranked player (based on score) may play down a section. Within all sections, some pairings may be adjusted for competitive matches and greater opportunity for both players to gain rating points, regardless of tournament score.

Time Control: G/25, d5 (Closed; Limited; Open) or G/60, +5 (G/60)

Prize: $300 (details below)

Saturday Evening Action (SEA) GRAND PRIX:

First to 15 points wins section Grand Prix

Open Section (Under 1200/Unrated): $50 Grand Prix prize + trophy. First to 15 points wins.

Limited Section (1200-1700): $100 Grand Prix prize + trophy. First to 15 points wins.

Closed Section (Over 1700): $100 Grand Prix prize + trophy. First to 15 points wins.

G/60 Section (Open To All): We will have a separate open section played as two games (G/60, +5) two weeks in a row, rated as a four-game tournament. Entry Fee is $5 per tournament (even if only playing two games). $50 Grand Prix Prize + trophy. First to 15 Points wins.

Note: For all sections, adjusted pairings to similar rated opponents when possible.

Score based on cumulative tournament score total. Once a player reaches the 15 point threshold, the section Grand Prix resets beginning next tournament, and everyone starts back at 0. Total score added at conclusion of each tournament, not mid-tournament. If multiple players reach 15 point threshold same tournament, the player with the highest total wins the cash prize. If players are tied, then cash split evenly and no trophy given. So, if a player has 13 points, and another 14 points, and both finish 3-1, their new respective scores will be 16 points and 17 points. The player with 17 points wins the full $100 and trophy.

Late-Entries Welcome - Show up before any round begins, and you'll be paired against a similar-rated opponent. $5 entry no matter amount of games played.

Free Bottled Water/Snacks

Boards/Sets/Clocks/Scoresheets/Pens Provided - No Equipment Needed.

Only requirement: Must be CURRENT USCF member. All games USCF rated. You can join/re-new at club if needed.

The most efficient way to gain rating points is Action Chess. Why play a six-hour game when you can play a one-hour game for the same rating points? With modern computer analysis, chess growth happens away from the board, reviewing played games. FOUR COMPLETE GAMES in the same time of one traditional tournament game means FOUR times the learning opportunity and FOUR times the potential rating point gain - all in one evening.

Action Chess is the most competitive and most fun form of standard-rated chess! If you're trying to become an Expert, Master, or scholastic player trying to move up the age lists, Action Chess is your best way to achieve your goals.
