OVERVIEW

The 1000GM Labor Day Super Swiss will be held Aug 30 - Sep 03, 2024, in San Jose, CA. This new event will likely meet the “super swiss” criteria to satisfy multiple FIDE norm requirements and offers a $10,000 prize fund.  There is a minimum rating requirement of 2000 FIDE*.  Free entry and Conditions are offered only to GMs.

  • Time Control: G/90 + 30 sec inc from move 1.
  • Tie Breaks in the following order: Direct Encounter, Buchholz Tie Break Variable (2023) (0,0,0,P,-) [84], Sonneborn Berger Tie Break Variable (2023) (0,0,0,P,-) [85],Buchholz Tie Break Variable (2023) (0,1,1,P,-) [84], Buchholz Tie Break Variable (2023) (0,0,1,P,-) [84]
  • 9 round Swiss tournament in 1 section.  US Chess and FIDE-rated.
  • Guaranteed “Super Swiss” Format if 30 paid registrations received before August 1st.
    • FIDE now requires a 40+ player Swiss norm for GM, IM, WGM, WIM titles.
    • Event will satisfy 1.43d “Super Swiss” foreigner requirement, making it more accommodating for players to earn norms

ELIGIBILITY

  • Open to players currently rated 2000+ FIDE.  No exceptions.
  • Players may use any of the following to qualify:
    • Current FIDE rating at the time of registration
    • August 2024 FIDE rating
    • Live ratings, US Chess ratings, and peak ratings are not considered.

  • Opening Ceremony: Aug 30: 5:30 PM
  • Round 1: Aug 30: 6 PM 
  • Round 2-3: Aug 31: 11 AM and 5 PM
  • Round 4-5: Sep 01: 11 AM and 5 PM
  • Round 6-7:  Sep 02: 11 AM and 5 PM
  • Round 8-9: Sep 03: 10 AM and 3:30 PM
  • Closing Ceremony: Sep 03: 8:30 PM

Prizes: Prizes will be send to winners by Paypal by organizer after the event finishes or between the next 5 days.

The entry fees have been revised to favor higher rated players. Not eligible for Benevity. OK to use existing credit from past donations.

Conditioned players

  • conditions are available for all GMs
    • includes shared accommodation and cash in certain cases

  • Conditions: Organizer will pay conditions to GMs by Paypal after the event or between the next 5 days after the event.

RULES AND NOTES

  • Withdrawals/Refunds:
    • Before the event, withdrawals for paid entries will incur a $20 transaction fee until August 1st.  50% refunds after August 1st until 2 hours before round 1.
    • During the event, withdrawals must be submitted at least 90 minutes before the round.
    • Players who forfeit a round (no show) or do not provide 90-minute notice to withdrawing will incur a $200 fine.
  • Byes:
    • Up to 4 optional half-point byes which must be requested before round 1.
    • Norms and conditions not possible if taking a bye.
    • Byes requested after the start of round one are zero-point byes.
  • Boards, sets, clocks provided.
  • By registering for or attending this event, players and guests grant permission to 1000GM to take and use photographs and video for purposes related to the event.

1000GM FAIR PLAY MEASURES

  • No spectators are allowed in the playing area.
  • Game broadcasts will be on a 15 minute delay
  • No Food or eating on tables
  • No Cellphones allowed inside by spectators or players (players can leave cellphones at designated area by arbiter)
  • No smart devices allowed inside the playing hall
  • If you have a thermo or drink bottle, please use the larger empty area of the table.
  • Do not Analyze games on DGT Boards after your games, please use one of the provided plastic sets and do it outside the  playing hall.
