HCC October Game-in-45 Challenge ($600 in prizes b/24; 70% GTD; 2 sections)

DATE & TIME:  Saturday October 10, 2026;  11:00AM~6:15PM  (Round 1 at 11:00AM, subsequent rounds ASAP. Short break for lunch, Round 2 by 1:15PM) .
LOCATION:  Play More Chess Academy, Home of the Hamden Chess Club, 1227 Whitney Ave., Hamden, CT 06517
EVENT FORMAT:  G/45, d5;  4-SS; Two Sections:  Open and U1600 (PLAY UP LIMIT: 100 POINTS. i.e. player with rating 1500-1599 may register to play in either section).
ELIGIBILITY:  A current USCF membership is required to play in this tournament (see link in notes below to join or renew. This tournament is open to all adult players ages 13+ of any rating, including Unrated.   (Players who are under age 13, who have a USCF rating of 700+ are also welcome to play in this tournament).
BYES:  One irrevocable half-point bye available for any round. Must be declared by end of registration.
ENTRY FEE:  
Early entry (by 11:59PM Tuesday prior):  $40; (Non-HCC Member: Additional $10 Fee);  Free Early entry for titled players (GMs, IMs and NMs) with no entry fee deducted from prize;
then Early entry (by 11:59PM Thursday prior): All players $50, then
Regular entry (by 9:00AM day of tournament, two hours before Rd 1): All players $60
PRIZES:  $600, based on 24 paid entries (70% Gtd);  (Open Section: $150-100, Top Female $50;  U1600 Section: $125-75, Top Female $50;  Biggest Upset in tournament $50.  Prizes adjusted on pro rata basis based on actual entries. Players with tie score within section share prizes equally.  
PRIZE LIMITS: Unrated player: $100 limit.  Unrated player not eligible for Biggest upset prize. Place prize is limited to $100 for unrated player. 
PLAY UP LIMIT: 100 POINTS. i.e. player with rating 1500-1599 may register to play in either section.

PARKING AND TRANSPORTATION:  Free parking is available on behind the Academy, including free street parking on Putnam/Lake Drive that goes behind the Academy; additional free parking at 60 Putnam Ave (one block West) (See Parking Map).  CT Transit bus stop is adjacent to Academy at intersection of Putnam/Whitney Ave.
ADDITIONAL NOTES:  All players must be current members of US Chess (go to USCHESS.org to join or renew your USCF membership/membership ID number.Hamden Chess Club Affiliate ID # is A6054128 forr HCC to receive credit.  Chess sets, boards, DGT clocks provided (must use our equipment).  Score sheets and pens are also provided.  Games on top boards may be broadcast live at: https://playmorechess.com/livegames.htm.
