Super Sunday

Note: The structure of the Super Sunday tournament changed in June 2026.
Note: This event was originally on October 25, but was moved to October 18.

Sections

Section 1 – Under 1500 (USCF-Rated Only)

• Eligible with a USCF rating of 1000-1499.

Section 2 – Intermediate (USCF & FIDE-Rated)

• Eligible with either a USCF rating of 1450-2099 or a FIDE rating of 1500-1999.

Section 3 – Championship (USCF & FIDE-Rated)

• Eligible with either a USCF rating of 2050 or higher, or a FIDE rating of 1950-2399.

Players may qualify for a section using either their USCF or FIDE rating. Players eligible for multiple sections may choose to play in a higher section.

Players rated below 1000 USCF are encouraged to play in our weekend Rapids tournament instead.

Structure

• 3-round Swiss-style tournament.
• Time control: G/75 +15.
• One half-point bye is available for any round if requested before the start of the tournament. All other requested byes receive zero points.
• Boards, clocks, and weighted plastic pieces are provided. Players may use their own equipment with their opponent's agreement.

Schedule

Round times: 10:00 a.m., 1:30 p.m., and 5:00 p.m.

Players should arrive no later than 9:45 a.m.

• A current USCF membership is required for all sections
• Free entry for players rated 2200+ (USCF or FIDE).  $45 will be deducted from prize winnings. To register, email your name, USCF ID, and FIDE ID to Stephen Lorimor at [email protected].
• There are no age restrictions
• Players registering for a section for which they are not eligible will automatically be moved to the appropriate section.

FIDE Information

• A valid FIDE ID is required for FIDE-rated sections

• Please allow several days for processing
• FIDE norms are not available at this event
• FIDE late-arrival rules will follow standard USCF procedures
• There is no minimum FIDE rating. The maximum FIDE rating for this event is 2399.

Prizes

$1,000 Guaranteed Prize Fund

Prize payments are made via Zelle or PayPal.

Section 1

• 1st Place: $160
• 2nd Place: $100
• Top Under 1250 USCF: $60

Section 2

• 1st Place: $160
• 2nd Place: $100
• Top Under 1800 FIDE (not unrated): $60

Section 3

• 1st Place: $200
• 2nd Place: $100
• Top Under 2100 (not unrated): $60

Additional prizes

At 45 players participating in the tournament, everyone wins with free donuts and coffee. 

At 50, a Top Junior (under age 12) award in each section for $45. 

At 55, a Top Senior (55+) award in each section for $45. 

At 60, all 2nd place and Under prizes increase by $15. 

At 65 players, 1st place prizes increase by $20 each.

Sections require a minimum of four players to function.

The venue is within walking distance of several restaurants and fast-food establishments. Food is not permitted at the playing tables, but a waiting area with tables is available.
