Event Overview
Fall dates: Sept. 9, 23; Oct. 7, 21; Nov. 4, 18; Dec. 2, 16
Start time: Players should arrive no later than 5:15 p.m. The first game begins at promptly at 5:30. Latecomers risk their clock running when they arrive.
End time: The Under 600 section typically ends by 9:30 p.m., the Under 1200 section not long after.
Players: Most players at this event will be children (ages 6-16), but adults are welcome to play. Beginners are welcome, but at a minimum players should know how to legally move chess pieces, and how to perform basic checkmates (ex; king and queen vs. king).
Structure / time controls: 4 S/S, G30 +5. (Each player will play four games. Each player receives 30 minutes per game, plus another five seconds per move.)
Sections: Under 600 and Under 1200 rating sections. The Under 1200 section requires at least 500 rating to enter. Lower-rated and unrated players may enter only at the tournament director's discretion. Sections may be merged if there are less than six players per section (this is rare).
Requirements: A USCF membership is required to play in the tournament. Contact the tournament director if you need assistance creating or renewing a membership.
Equipment: Players do not need to bring any equipment. Young players are recommended to eat dinner before arriving, or at least bring a snack.
Registration: The registration fee is $25. Online registration closes at 5pm on the day of the event.
Byes: If you can’t attend the entire tournament, a half-point bye (limit one) is available for any one round. Byes must be requested before the tournaments starts. If you are going to take 1st round bye please contact the tournament director at least one hour before the tournament starts.
Prizes: Top three winners in each section receive a trophy or a medal. If sections are combined (rare), one or more additional award(s) will be added as class prizes for players under 600 rating.
