Bridgeport Open Featuring Maxime Vachier-Lagrave

Central High School, Bridgeport, CT
-

Event Overview

DIG is bringing current World Blitz Chess Champion, and Super Grandmaster celebrity, Maxime-Vachier-Lagrave (MVL), to Bridgeport, CT this August for the Bridgeport Open Chess Tournament. This will be one of the biggest chess events in the history of Connecticut!

The Bridgeport Open will be held from Friday, August 19 to Sunday, August 21st, 2022. Players in the top four sections (Open, U1900, U1500, U1250) will play four rounds in the tournament and spend one round in a lesson with MVL. Each section will spend time with MVL separate from the other sections. For example, the Open Section will spend time with MVL on Friday afternoon and the U1900 Section will spend time with MVL on Saturday morning.

There will be cash prizes for the top three players in each of the top four sections. Players in the U1000 section will get trophies rather than cash prizes.

Additionally, 20 players in each of the top four sections can register for a simul match against MVL directly after their group lesson. The other players in that section may watch.

On the last day of the event (Sunday afternoon), the top two finishers from each of the top four sections will play in a Blitz Tournament with MVL also participating! MVL’s games in this tournament will be projected on a big screen behind him while he is playing so that people can sit and watch him play. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for you to play, learn and talk to a chess legend. Don’t miss out! Limited entries.
